(ECNS) -- The world’s largest clean energy corridor in China has generated approximately 295.904 billion kWh of electricity, an increase of 7.11 percent over the same period last year, according to China Three Gorges Corporation on Thursday.
This is equivalent to saving 89.24 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 240 million tons.
With a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts, the 1,800 kilometer-long clean energy corridorcomprises six mega hydropower stations on the Yangtze River. Four of them, Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba, are located on the Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River, while the other two, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, are situated along its middle section.
The corridor plays a major role in flood control, shipping, water resource utilization and ecological security in the Yangtze River Basin, according to the corporation.
